Crab Cakes for Your RV

When you’re driving around in your RV, be it in North Dakota or somewhere else in the country, you want to rely on your galley for good food – not all the nearby restaurants that you pass. No one said RV cooking can’t be gourmet, which is why we bring you some of the best recipes out there – and all of them can be done from the comfort of your RV.

It’s important to make the most of your galley. The best RV has the best setup for a galley, allowing you to make the most of your kitchen when you’re on the road. After all, the reason you drive around in an RV is to travel and save money. If you don’t need to stay at a hotel, there’s no reason to dine in a restaurant, either.

Summer recipes should be explored even when you’re not at home. Cooking in an RV galley is simple, which is why all of the best campers and RVs have some sort of kitchen setup. You can do so much more than empty a can of food into a pot and heat it up. You have the ability to go gourmet in your galley – and we can show you how with mouth-watering recipes posted all of the time.

You can enjoy a delicious crab cakes with the right recipe – especially when you learn how easy they are to make.

RV Crab Cakes

The recipe will make 6-8 crab cakes, depending on how large you form them before throwing them in the skillet.

  • 1.5 t Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 T biscuit baking mix
  • 1 T dried parsley
  • 2 T mayo
  • 1 T mustard
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ¼ t Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 lb crab meat
  • 2 qt vegetable oil for frying

1. Mix together the first three ingredients. Stir in the mayo, mustard, egg, and Worcestershire sauce in.

2. Gently mix crab meat in.

3. Form mixture into 6 or 8 balls.

4. Heal 1 inch of vegetable oil into a large skillet at 365 degrees. Place crab cakes in and flatten with a spatula. After 3 minutes, flip the crab cake, or until browned.

5. Drain on paper towels and serve.

Delicious crab cakes are just minutes away – even when you’re cruising around in your RV. Whether you have a burner or a grill, this recipe is possible – it just needs a little adaptation. You can enjoy the cakes as they are or serve them with a side of your choice.

Dutch Oven Beef and Summer Vegetables

After a fun day of hiking and swimming, every family wants a tasty meal that will win over even those picky eaters. Your friends over at Capital RV Center have a great recipe for beef that will make everyone come back for more. Below is the listed ingredients you will need for this delicoius Dutch Oven Beef and Summer Vegetables recipe. This is a one-pot meal that doesn’t skimp out on the rich beef flavor.

  • 1- 2 pound boneless beef roast
  • 6 garlic gloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped rosemary leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes, stems removed
  • 2 ears of corn, cleaned and chopped into thirds
  • 1 onion, cut into 6 large wedges
  • ½ pound green beans, trimmed and sliced in half
  • ¾ pound of golden potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups of chicken broth

Start the prep work at home before you hit the road. Prepare the beef in a large bowl, combining the rosemary, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Thoroughly coat the beef roast and pack it in a resealable non-leak plastic bag. Chill for two days before travel or freeze. Pack up the vegetables in resalable bags and chill until travel as well.

Once at camp, get a fire going with a good coal base. You want to be able to have enough coals to set your Dutch oven upon to cook. Rack your coals evenly so the Dutch oven can sit upon them. Remove any large pieces of firewood. Make sure to have enough coals to add on top of the lid. Once your Dutch oven is in place, add the butter until melted. Add your beef and cook until browned. This takes about 10 minutes. Turn the beef over and add two cups of chicken broth and cover. Take your additional coals and place them on the lid. You will add more coals around the pot every 30 minutes, for one hour. Remove the lid off and turn meat over adding the remaining cup of broth. Add the vegetables and cook covered for one hour. Add more broth if the meat or pot is drying out. Cook until beef is tender. Once done, season with pepper and salt to taste and enjoy.

We hope you enjoy this flavorful beef recipe from the crew at your Bismark RV dealer.

Roadtrip Songs for Your RV

Time on the road can be boring. Getting from one destination to another often means long days on the highway from sun up to sun down. However, over the years, travelers have come up with numerous ways to combat the boredom of driving or being a passenger on a gruelingly long journey. The following are some of the top road trip songs to help keep you going when you’re eager to get to your destination but feel like you’re not getting anywhere.

Born to Run — Bruce Springsteen

Need a song that will make you feel proud to be a road warrior? This one is it. Play it loud, sing along and feel inspired to keep on driving.

Every Day Is a Winding Road — Sheryl Crow

It’s likely your entire family knows the words to this 1996 release. After a short sing-a-long, you’ll all feel a little better about the long road ahead.

Freebird — Lynyrd Skynyrd

The lyrics mention traveling, because there’s too many places to see. There are few things more inspiring than a classic rock and roll song to keep you motivated to continue adventuring.

Hotel California — The Eagles

If you’re headed southwest in your RV, few songs will excite you more than the dreamy classic Hotel California. The lyrics, “My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim… I had to stop for the night,” also let drivers know that stopping for a break or a good night’s sleep isn’t always a setback.

I Can’t Drive 55 — Sammy Hagar

The renowned American rocker Sammy Hagar once sang about his tendency to drive too fast. While going over the speed limit is not an option (or wise) in many RVs, the song will surely get you excited about reaching your destination.

Before you hit the road for your cross-country summer road trips, stop in and see us at the Capital RV Centers in Bismarck and Minot. We’ll help you get prepared with everything from RV service to camping supplies.
